Mashup is embarking on an ambitious endeavor - to pilot the creation and operation of a small theatre venue in Traverse City. The support we seek is first and foremost to get the space we've identified, a storefront in the Cherryland Center, outfitted to meet the building code needed for Assembly usage.  In this new space we will be able to not only host our own shows, but also offer it up as an affordable option to other local theatre productions or arts groups looking to perform in a more intimate venue. 

Although the space was used for several years as a church (also Assembly usage) there are some aspects of the space that were not approved by the township and county. We've received all the building codes and approvals to move forward, and have $10,000 in funds that have already been donated to use towards some of the cost of transitioning the space to be usable as a theatre. Thanks to our fundraising efforts last spring as well as much grant writing, we will have all of the lighting, sound, and even microphones we need to outfit the space. We've also been extremely fortunate to have the Old Town Playhouse let us use the risers from their old Depot space to create fixed, raised seating. Now we are working on raising another $20,000 in order to do the minimum plumbing work and make it happen. 

We've been working with architect Jeff Neidorfler on a great open design for the space and the more we can raise beyond our goal the swankier we can get. Every little bit counts - even the smallest donation can help to make it a reality. 

We also have a generous local donor who is already offered to match up to $5,000 of individual donations to get us started. With your help we can get the space ready to open in 2025, and create a community asset that currently does not exist in the area, where theatre makers can affordably rent the space for long enough to build, rehearse, and perform.
